Thoughts on Corporate Social Media Guidelines
January 19, 2010
I had the pleasure of drafting our employee social media guidelines today. Fortunately, there are already quite a few resources available and written better than I ever could have.
Here are some of the best ones I found in my research:
PR Squared shares 10Corporate Social Media Guidelines
The Greteman Group shares their Social Media Guidelines for their agency
Both are great resources and every company, agency or non-profit should use these examples as a starter for drafting their own set of guidelines.

Hey there, Neal. Glad you found and used our social media policy.
How restrictive is your company going to be on the use of personal social media? We’re always interested to know where companies fall on the spectrum of restriction vs. freedom.
Thanks again!

Thanks for the comment, Todd. I’m not sure yet. I am really pushing for us to take the stance of employees being transparent, yet smart about the way they talk about themselves and their jobs in their social media lives. The interesting part is that I work in a regulated industry (beer) and some people believe that even personal social media can serve as brand advertising when you are an agent of the company. It will be interesting to see how all of that plays out.
